How to Discover Blog Post Ideas for Your SaaS
Updated: Jul 31
Should a new startup have a blog?
What are some good startup blog ideas for a SaaS?
Creating the perfect blog content for your startup target audience STRICTLY depends on the lucrative startup blog ideas you can brainstorm and research.
And not just what SEO tools tell you!
Whenever I want to write a new blog post for my content clients, the client and I begin by spending 15 to 30 minutes juggling post ideas and putting them down.
It's an easy strategy I am going to teach you in this article.
Coming Up with Lucrative Startup Blog Ideas Your Customers Want:
Most startups make use of expensive SEO tools to handle this process.
Brainstorm lucrative post ideas and research on platforms like Quora and Reddit. Put them down.
What topics do your potential customers want to see on your website?
This process requires you to think in two ways:
Your products and;
Your target audience.
Your content or blog ideas should be able to create a balance between your products and your target customers.
During brainstorming, I ask questions like;
“What do my target customers search for on Google?”
“What are common problems my target customers are facing?”
“What are they buying?”
“What blog content can I write that would answer specifically these questions that my target audience is buying?”
“How can I enlighten my target customers about our products and services?”.
Brainstorm blog topic ideas that attract potential customers or clients, educate them, and provide top-notch value.
Your posts should excite readers about your products or services.
Every SaaS Blog Post You Publish Should Take the Readers on a Sales Journey
I use the 3 Es of writing converting blog articles for your small business or startup.
EXCITE (E1): Excite your target audience (potential customers and clients) to click and read them.
EDUCATE (E2): Educate readers. Help them solve a problem.
ENTICE (E3): Entice your ideal target buyers to pay for your products or services or become a lead.
Here's how I was able to come up with profitable blog post ideas for one of my clients, UniclixApp:
When working with UniclixApp, we devised a strategy for new content ideas.
The goal was to get small businesses, entrepreneurs, and marketers who were either looking for a social media management tool to help them or were already using a social media management tool but wanted a less expensive option that was easy to use.
A quick after quick brainstorming of profitable articles, we were able to come up with topics like:
“Hootsuite alternatives you should try” - in this blog article, we mention UniclixApp in the list of Hootsuite alternatives.
“Free social media management tools for small businesses” - We also mention UniclixApp.
“Top 5 Buffer Alternatives for Influencers and Small Businesses” - We target influencers and small business owners who are familiar with Buffer but want a cheaper alternative.
“7 Steps to Become a Better Social Media Management Manager for Your Business” - Discuss the relevant steps to becoming a better social media manager and show how to handle social media management with UniclixApp.
The 3 Steps to Generate Lucrative Startup Blog Ideas for Your SaaS
There are several AI keyword tools online but I recommend Google Keyword Planner and Ahrefs.
The second step is keyword research and I use Google Keyword Planner for keyword research.
Most times, businesses try to think for their customers and clients.
This leads us to assume what our target customers want, which is entirely wrong.
Use a keyword research tool like Google Keyword Planner. Find what your potential customers are searching for on search engines.
Make sure you are going for content ideas that people are interested in.
I like to target less competitive keywords. We can aim for much more competitive keywords as we build a stronger SEO profile.
Brainstorm with Quora
The next step is to use Quora and ensure people are looking for these questions.
I use Quora a lot because it is an organic social media platform that allows internet users to ask questions and answer freely.
I get real questions people are searching for or are asking on Quora. This ensures you write or solve real problems.
Here's how to evaluate your saas startup blog ideas in GKP.
How to Validate Your SaaS Startup Blog Ideas Using Google Keyword Planner:
Make use of Google Keyword Planner to validate each content idea.
These blog ideas will generate sales and attract traffic.
I have a simple three-step plan to validate every startup blog idea.
How to Get SaaS Content Ideas from Google Keyword Planner Tool
Step 1 - I identify the main keyword or phrase on every Quora question that I pull up.
Step 2 - I run it on Google Keyword Planner or any other keyword research tool like Ahrefs.
Step 3 - I select all keywords with at least 1000 and write blog post headlines for SEO.
Generate SaaS Blog Ideas from Quora
What is the main keyword in a Quora question?
The main keyword is the keyword or phrase that most searchers would type.
For example;
“What are 10 Great Social Media Management Tools for Influencers?”
The main keyword here would be “social media management tools for influencers”.
Run it up on Google Keyword Planner.
Google Keyword Planner (GKP) shows you a breakdown and SEO details for several keywords.
SEO Keyword Difficulty
I like to go for the less competitive keywords or key phrases popularly called “low-hanging fruit” in SEO.
This allows us to build domain authority over time as we target more competitive keywords.
Pay attention to the competitiveness of every keyword.
For newer websites, go for less competitive keywords to allow you to rank faster.
SaaS Blog Post Title Ideas
I think of 5 to 10 headline ideas for every content I select in the previous step.
This gives ideas to pick from. One that resonates and gets my target audience to click.
Each headline should be around 75 characters or less. Pick headlines that speak directly to your ideal and target customers.
How to Begin Writing High-Converting SEO Headlines for Your Startup Blog Posts
How do you write high-converting blog headlines for your saas blog?
Here are some tips:
Begin by aiming for 50 characters per headline or less now.
The shorter your blog posts the better.
With time and as you practice, you should be able to write better headlines for your blogs.
Feel free to send to your colleagues, friends, and fellow bloggers to tell you which headlines they would most likely click.
Or if you already have an audience, feel free to reach out.
You can also run social media polls, for example on LinkedIn, asking your followers on social media which headlines they would most likely love to read.
With time and practice, you should be able to write great headlines that attract your customers.
You could also use free AI headline generator tools like "Headline Analyzer" from Coschedule or any other AI writing tool to help you get ideas off the ground.
And thank you for taking the time to read my blog article.
