What is a Freelance Niche Market?

A freelance niche market is a focused, targetable portion of a broader market in which specialized products or services can be easily sold.

It is a specialized or focused area of a broader market that freelancers can serve to differentiate themselves from their competition.

A lucrative freelance niche must:

  • Have a hungry audience,

  • Meet underserved or unmet needs.

  • Be profitable in terms of business.

  • Be easy to penetrate because of little to no competition.

When we’re starting, it’s always so tempting to target a broad market for more clients but to succeed as a freelancer today, you MUST do the opposite!

Me, I started getting clients when I targeted a specific audience.

Rather than targeting “businesses who need content writing”, I targeted “b2b software businesses who are just starting”

Identifying this sweet spot in my freelance writing business has allowed me to:

  • Charge between $500 to $800 for a 2,000-word article,

  • Take my freelance business to 5 figures yearly. And;

  • Work on my own terms without any fear of competition.

So how can you go from no idea to so many profitable niche ideas for your service business?

Here are three easy steps:

  1. Step 1: List your Passion

  2. Step 2: Identifying your ideal client (who you prefer to work with)

  3. Step 3: Run the Quora-Planner niche hack.
